Pret scraps free coffee subscription

From 3rd September, the Club Pret subscription will be changing to only provide 50% off five drinks a day

The coffee chain has terminated its original coffee subscription scheme and will be replacing it with a new loyalty perk.

The new loyalty subscription will cost £10 a month and will offer 50% off drinks and no discount on food.

Club Pret

Currently, Club Pret members get five free coffees each day and a 20% discount on food for a total cost of £30 a month.

Pret A Manger originally introduced the coffee subscription back in September 2020 to win back customers after lockdown and cost £20 a month. The price increased last year to £30 a month.

From 3rd September the membership will be offering a 50% discount on five barista-made drinks per a day for £5 a month, until 31st March 2025. After this period ends the subscription will then increase to £10.

The chain has said that the new Club Pret is a 'much more accessible price than the £360 a year people are currently paying.'

Pret’s UK & Ireland managing director Clare Clough said: “It’s almost four years since we introduced our coffee subscription at the height of the pandemic, and I'm proud of the role Club Pret has played for us and our customers since. It was an innovative way to reconnect with our loyal customers and introduce Pret to tens of thousands of new ones, bringing customers back into our shops with an offer that almost seemed ‘too good to be true’.

"Four years and more than a quarter of a billion coffees later, we have decided that it’s time to rethink how it works."

Alongside this change, the brand is also making price changes to some of its more popular items. Its filter coffee will be dropping to 99p and its butter croissant will able drop to £1.99.
