Wimpy goes spicy and sweet with innovative new menu

The new menu launches 1 May across all 58 table service restaurants

Wimpy is making major changes as it launches an innovative new menu across the brand’s 58 table service restaurants nationwide on 1 May.

Introducing its first sharing dishes in a basket, burgers with hot and spicy habanero sauces and desserts with a difference, the raft of changes have been 12 months in the making.

Adding an ‘American-diner vibe’ for the first time, customers will be able to enjoy selected Wimpy dishes in diner-style (resuable) baskets, while the brand will also retain its tradition of serving meals on china crockery to the table.

The new menu

With an “overwhelming positive” response from customer trials, the new menu includes:

  • The Hot N Loaded burger, featuring Wimpy’s 100% beef patty, strips of breaded chicken fillet, and maximum heat from sliced jalapenos and habanero sauce
  • A new meat-free Spicy Bean & Slaw burger, now incorporating a habanero slaw mix over a beans and spiced patty
  • The Ultimate Griddle Platter, featuring a mix of grill plate favourites including Wimpy’s popular pork Bendy frankfurter, alongside battered onion rings and a new mini corn on the cob
  • Loaded Cheesy Chips – perfect for sharing – featuring a new cheese sauce, sliced jalapenos, red onion and Wimpy’s iconic Special Sauce
  • A new plant-based breaded strip that can be incorporated into dishes such as Wimpy’s new Wrap, Salad Basket, Strips & Chips Combo and side options
  • For lighter bites, there’s also the new Wimpy Club toasted sandwich and a classic Baked Potato with a choice of fillings

A new desserts menu includes:

  • A range of churro-based dishes, including an ice cream Whirl, a Loaded Churros basket and a takeaway Churros Cup with chocolate sauce
  • A warm Caramel Apple Pie and a Berry Nice Cheesecake
  • A return of the ever-popular Brown Derby doughnut dessert

The Kids’ Menu features a cost-conscious Kids’ Combo meal presented in a food basket and marks the return of the popular Mr Wimpy character – relaunched to coincide with 2024’s 70th anniversary celebrations.

Known for its quality and good value, cooked to order food, Wimpy has kept its eye on affordability, launching a new Make It A Meal category for both table service and takeaway, providing burger meals at a set single price.

The new Breakfast Menu marks the launch of Wimpy’s first-ever morning promotion. The Sunrise Sunday offering – a newly renovated Sunrise breakfast complete with hot drink refills – designed to foster loyalty and encourage Sunday morning breakfast fans.

In a further change, a Coffee Thick Shake has now been added to the drinks menu.

'We are evolving'

Wimpy general manager, Chris Woolfenden, says the move is designed to appeal to a wider audience as well as existing Wimpy fans. “This is all about exploring new dishes and new flavours,” he said. “We want to be bold, we want to be innovative, and we want to bring generations of new Wimpy fans through our doors.

“Yes, we are a heritage brand, but we also recognise that the quick service and casual dining market is changing and so are we. We want to show that Wimpy isn’t standing still, we are evolving, we are listening, and we are delivering the dishes that customers want.”

Chris adds: “It’s all about choice and celebrating food trends while continuing to embrace the great customer service for which we are so well-known. Today’s casual diners want to be able to share dishes with their friends and the diner-style baskets offer a retro way of serving food in a fun way.”
