Like-for-like footfall in fast-food restaurants down in February
Like-for-like footfall in UK’s fast-food restaurants was down by 1.5% in February 2024, with ‘no improvement over January’s numbers’
According to the latest report from Meaningful Vision, the like-for-like footfall in the UK's fast-food restaurants was down 1.5% in February.
Showing no improvement over January's numbers, it is following an almost 5% like-for-like decline in visits in January.
When focusing on February 2024, the leap year has to be considered when comparing results to February 2023. “When we compare traffic by an equivalent number of days, February 2024 is actually down by 5%, and this means February really shows no improvement over January’s numbers,” the report said.
Further analysis showed all growing segments within the foodservice market showed signs of slowing down during January and February. This includes capital city, London, which previously demonstrated a 5% growth rate in 2023, which has now fallen flat, with only Central London remaining on the growth path with 8% growth.
All market segments showed a decline in footfall in the first two months of 2024, with the exception of bakeries and sandwich shops, which are growing by 3%, half the rate seen in 2023.
When it comes to the best time of day, morning visits are still the busiest periods and are up by almost 15%. While the evening period has seen the largest decline in visits.
